• Matt named BIG EAST ROOKIE OF THE YEAR by the Big East Conference
• Matt named Scout.com Freshman All-American (2nd Team)
• Matt named Sporting News Big East Freshman of the Year, also lands spot on Sporting News Big East all-Freshman team
• Matt named Tampa Tribune Big East Rookie of the Year

2006 Milestones

• 9/18/2006 - Matt named Big East Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 302 yards and rushing for 73 more against UCF
• 11/11/2006 - Matt sets USF's single-game record for passing by racking up 364 yards through the air in a 27-10 victory over Syracuse
• 11/11/2006 - Matt sets USF's single-season record for passing by a Freshman with 1979 (with two games left), breaking Marquel Blackwell's record of 1620
• 11/25/2006 - Matt passes 3000 yards in total offense for the season in huge win at West Virginia
